“We was scared,” one of the teens told police, “I thought she was going to shoot me in the head, how she was acting.”

The boys explained to authorizes that they were selling discount cards for their school sports program. They told authorities that Jerri repeatedly shouted at them and called them liars when they said they were fundraising for school. She told them to spread their legs, get on the ground, and and place their arms behind their backs. One of the boys said that when he tried swatting at a mosquito, Jerri allegedly told him she’d shoot if he didn’t stop moving.

The police reported noted that one of the responding officers recognized one of the boys and told them they could get up and walk over to his patrol vehicle. At that point, Jerri allegedly called them back and began to lecture them about how her actions were not racially motivated.

As for Jerri Kelly, — the wife of Cross County Jail Administrator Joseph Kelly — she was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a minor.  According to reports, her husband resigned from his position due to the heavy loads of backlash the couple faced from the community over the incident. Cross County Sheriff David West said the jail administrator “did nothing wrong, but with his wife and the way this blew up, he decided it was best.”

The superintendent of the Wynne School District said the district is considering stopping door-to-door fundraisers due to the incident.
