Stadium Goods and Sotheby’s hosted the “Ultimate Sneaker Collection” auction that included 100 of the rarest sneakers in existence. One of which was a pair of 1972 Nike Moon Shoes, which sold for nearly half a million dollars- breaking the auction record for the highest sold sneaker at $437,500. The waffle-iron pressed sole was designed by Nike’s co-founder Bill Bowerman to help runners improve their speed. Only 12 were made and the pair that was sold was the only one left that had never been worn. Miles Nadal, a Canadian entrepreneur purchased the Moon Shoe sneakers along with the other 99 pairs of sneakers for a grand total of $1,287,500. He says he will be displaying all 100 pairs of sneakers from the sale in his private auto museum in Toronto.
