According to FOX 5 News, one of the first Walmart stores to implement this plan will be in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The removal of cashiers does not mean certain employees will be out of job, they will still be able to provide customer service such as assisting customers at self-checkout. The plan will be enforced in other locations if it is proven to be successful during their test run.
Recently, Walmart launched a touch-free payment system called Walmart Pay to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The news outlet also reported on the closure of a Walmart in Denver after three people who visited the location died from the coronavirus in April. Six employees also tested positive but there were no further details.
