13NewsNow first shared- Governor Glenn Youngkin signed Executive Order 51 on Friday, establishing a groundbreaking initiative that harnesses generative AI to streamline Virginia’s regulatory system.

“AI has swept across the nation and our Commonwealth, energizing industries, empowering citizens, and rapidly advancing our way of life in unforeseen ways,” said Governor Youngkin.

“Using emergent artificial intelligence tools, we will push this effort further in order to continue our mission of unleashing Virginia’s economy in a way that benefits all of its citizens.”

Under the order, an AI tool will systematically scan all state rules and guidance documents, flagging statutory conflicts, eliminating duplications, and simplifying convoluted legal language. The Office of Regulatory Management will lead implementation, supported by the Office of Transformation and Chief Transformation Officer Rob Ward.

“The Virginia model for regulatory modernization has become the gold standard across the U.S.,” noted Reeve Bull, Director of the Office of Regulatory Management, emphasizing that this new AI-powered review reaffirms Virginia’s leadership role.
