The U.S. Department of State has become involved in A$AP Rocky’s current assault case in Sweden.

A spokesperson told Spin that the department is “actively monitoring” the case. Due to the incident that took place overseas, A$AP Rocky is currently being held in pre-detention at a Swedish jail.

The “Fashion Killa” rapper is being held on suspicion of assault charges for an incident that involved two men during Rocky’s tour stop in Stockholm.  If the Harlem rapper is convicted he faces up to six years in prison.

“We are aware of the arrest of a U.S. citizen in Stockholm,” the spokesperson said. “We take seriously our responsibility to assist U.S. citizens abroad and are actively monitoring the situation.”

The rapper, whose given name is Rakim Mayers, shared video footage on his Instagram account of the altercation between him, the two men, and his team during the July 4th holiday weekend.

A$AP Rocky and his crew voluntarily spoke to Swedish law enforcement when they were arrested.

According to  TMZ, the cops blocked the U.S. Embassy from talking to the rapper and his team.  Sources called that  “a breach of [A$AP] Rocky’s human rights.”

On Tuesday, a Change.org petition was created with over 130,000 signatures from Rocky’s fellow colleges in the music industry such as Travis Scott, Miguel, Lil Yachty and the clothing brand Guess. Some of his fans have also signed the petition.
