Days after his bid to purchase Twitter for $44 billion was approved, Elon Musk may have set his sights on the next company he wants to buy.
In a seemingly tongue-in-cheek Tweet on Wednesday night, the billionaire said the next company he wanted to take ownership over is Atlanta-based Coca-Cola.
The reason? So he could put cocaine back in the formula.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, it is true that the original formula for Coca-Cola contained cocaine.
They say that when John Pemberton created Coca-Cola in 1885, he used cocaine in the form of an extract of the coca leaf. At that time, cocaine was legal and used in several medications. People thought it was safe to use in small doses.
We have since learned that cocaine is not safe to use in any amount.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that the amount of cocaine in the soft drink’s formula was slowly decreased until being completely removed by 1929.
In a matter of hours, Musk’s Tweet had reached more than 2,000,000 likes.
Because cocaine is illegal, it can only be assumed that Musk does not intend to put the drug into Coca-Cola, nor would he be allowed to. It is unclear if Musk has any intention of considering purchasing Coca-Cola.
