Hosted by comedian Druski at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the annual event featured emotional speeches, surprise appearances and star-studded performances while recognizing both rising stars and legendary icons.

Teyana Taylor emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners, earning multiple honors, including the prestigious Icon of the Year Award. Cardi B continued her award-winning run by taking home Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, while Clipse added to their celebrated comeback with major victories. Kehlani was named Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Leon Thomas won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Kendrick Lamar secured Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, and Doechii and SZA were recognized with the BET Her Award. In sports, A’ja Wilson and Jalen Brunson were among the athletes honored for their outstanding performances over the past year.

Beyond the competitive categories, the ceremony paid tribute to several influential figures whose impact extends far beyond entertainment. Lauryn Hill received the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award following a powerful tribute featuring some of today’s biggest artists before delivering a surprise performance herself. Soulja Boy for President? Atlanta-Raised Rapper Teases Possible 2028 White House Run

— Rapper and entrepreneur Soulja Boy is making headlines outside the music industry after suggesting that he may pursue a run for president of the United States in 2028. The artist, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, sparked conversation on social media after sharing a message referencing a potential presidential campaign. On October 10, Soulja Boy posted “SOULJA BOY 2028” on Instagram, prompting fans and social media users to question whether the rapper is seriously considering entering politics. The “Crank That” hitmaker also discussed the possibility of bringing his experience in entertainment, entrepreneurship, and technology into public service. According to his public comments, several issues are influencing his interest in politics, including economic opportunity, education, criminal justice reform, and emerging technology. Although the announcement generated attention, Soulja Boy has not formally launched a presidential campaign or identified a political party. The rapper has maintained a reputation for making bold announcements throughout his career, frequently highlighting his role as an early innovator in digital music promotion and social media marketing. Soulja Boy became a household name in 2007 when his breakthrough single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” became a major hit and helped introduce a new era of internet-driven hip-hop success. His early use of YouTube and other digital platforms helped establish a blueprint that many independent artists would later follow. Although he was born in Chicago, Soulja Boy spent part of his childhood in Atlanta, where he developed an interest in hip-hop before moving to Mississippi. His possible entry into politics adds him to a growing list of entertainers who have publicly expressed interest in seeking political office. For now, his comments remain an indication of interest rather than confirmation of an official campaign. Whether the rapper moves forward with his political ambitions remains to be seen, but the announcement has already created another conversation surrounding one of hip-hop’s most outspoken personalities.
