Will Smith calls his 1995 divorce to Sheree Zampino the ‘ultimate failure’ during an emotional chat with wife Jada Pinkett-Smith for an upcoming Red Table Talk Father’s Day special

Jada Pinkett-Smith, 48, isn’t afraid of having tough conversations with her husband Will Smith, 51, when cameras are rolling for the sake of her digital talk show.

In a teaser clip for an upcoming episode of Red Table Talk, Will revealed that his 1995 divorce from his first wife was the ‘worst thing in [his] adult life’ and called it the ‘ultimate failure’.

The blunt conversation between the couple, who have been married since 1997, is part of the Red Table Talk Father’s Day special.

Rather than the usual red table, the clip begins with Jada and Will seated next to each other on a couch. Jada begins by asking her husband to expand on something he brings up often about the differences between being a good spouse and a good parent.

She starts to say: ‘Just because a man might not be a the best husband …’ ‘Doesn’t mean he’s not a good father,’ Will chimes in, finishing the thought.

‘With Sheree and with Trey, that was a really difficult time,’ Will answered before the show cuts to a sweet clip of the actor with his son Trey.

The home video shows the then toddler aged boy laying on a bed getting a kiss from his besotted dad, with father and son exclaiming ‘love you’ while mom Sheree Zampino films.

The Men in Black star was married to Zampino from 1992 to 1995 and they share son Trey who is now 27-years-old.

‘Divorce was the worst thing in my adult life,’ Smith tells Jada in the clip. ‘Divorce was the ultimate failure for me.’

He continued: ‘I’ve been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don’t think anything touches the failure of getting divorced from my 2-year-old son’s mother.’

An understanding Jada nods along while Will exposes this regrettable part of his past.

The Red Table Talk host was actually part of the reason that Will’s first marriage crumbled as they had begun their romantic relationship while he was still with Sheree.

Will and Jada went on to tie the knot themselves in 1997 and have two children together, Jaden, 21, and Willow, 19, who also co-hosts the Facebook Watch show along with her mom and grandmom.

Jada had her own moment of reckoning about her hand in the end of Will and Sheree’s marriage in a 2018 episode of the Emmy nominated show.

She had brought Sheree on to have a candid talk about their past and apologized for starting a relationship with a married father – despite going on to marry him.

‘Because I did not understand marriage. I didn’t understand divorce. I will say that I probably should’ve fell back,’ Jada told Sheree through tears.

Snapping back Sheree quipped: ‘You think?’

Jada explained how it took time for her to realize that she was behaving ‘insensitively’ and ‘inconsiderately’ as their marriage was ‘unwinding’ and she was just ‘trying to get in there.’

After some tough years and time to heal, the ladies were able to laugh together while recalling one of their lowest points exchanging ‘fighting words’ over the phone and hanging up on each other.

One thing that too no time, was for Jada and Trey to develop a loving relationship – one that Sheree herself acknowledged on the show.

‘Thank you for loving my baby…I’ll tell you, on this side of things, my son could not have a better bonus mom,’ she said.

The full Father’s Day Red Table Talk special streams Sunday on Facebook Watch.
