Nick Cannon has opened up about why he became a father to 12 children, revealing that his decision was less about planning and more about emotional struggles.
In a recent sit-down on The Breakfast Club, Cannon admitted that beginning therapy helped him recognize a connection between unresolved trauma and his family choices.
Trauma Over Intention
According to Cannon, his lifestyle gave him the freedom and opportunity to expand his family, but much of it wasn’t intentional. He described acting out of pain and being “careless,” saying he likely wouldn’t have fathered so many children if he had taken more time to process his emotions.
Acknowledging Love
Still, Cannon stressed that all of his children were born out of meaningful relationships and love. However, he reflected that his pace and choices might have been different had he dealt with past issues—like his divorce—before moving forward.
Reactions & Family Details
The comments drew mixed reactions online. Some applauded his honesty, while others criticized his explanation. One user joked, “He was supposed to go to therapy, not the maternity ward.”
Cannon shares twins Moroccan and Monroe with Mariah Carey, and he also has children with Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa, Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, and Alyssa Scott.
