One of Hampton Roads’ biggest annual community celebrations is officially back as the Chesapeake Jubilee returns to Chesapeake City Park for four days of family fun, live entertainment, carnival rides, and fireworks. The longtime tradition runs from May 14 through May 17 and is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors from across the region.
Now in its 43rd year, the Chesapeake Jubilee first began in the early 1980s as a celebration of the city’s birthday and has since grown into one of the area’s premier spring festivals. Organizers say attendees can expect a packed weekend filled with amusement rides, games, arts and crafts vendors, live music performances, food stands, and family-friendly attractions throughout the park.
One of the major highlights of the weekend will be the annual fireworks extravaganza produced by Zambelli Fireworks, scheduled for Saturday night around 9 p.m. Festivalgoers will also be able to enjoy the popular Kiwanis Shrimp Feast, Royal Circus performances, Dynamo Dogs entertainment shows, and a variety of community activities for all ages.
Event organizers are anticipating between 25,000 and 35,000 attendees this year, with favorable weather expected to help boost turnout even higher than previous years. Local leaders say the festival continues to serve as a major community gathering that brings together residents from Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Suffolk, and surrounding areas.
The Chesapeake Jubilee will take place at Chesapeake City Park located at 900 City Park Drive. General admission is $3, while parking is $10. Carnival rides and select attractions require separate tickets or wristbands.
