Virginia Cannabis Authority Seeks Public Input as State Prepares for Legal Marijuana Market

Virginia is inviting residents, business owners, medical cannabis patients, advocates, and industry stakeholders to help shape the future of the state’s legal marijuana industry. The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority (CCA) has launched a public survey seeking feedback on proposed regulations that will guide the development of Virginia’s regulated retail cannabis market ahead of its planned July 1, 2027 launch. Officials say the input will play a key role in creating rules that prioritize consumer safety, product quality, and a fair, transparent marketplace.

The survey is designed to gather perspectives on a wide range of topics, including licensing, retail operations, public health, safety standards, and industry oversight. The CCA says hearing directly from Virginians will help regulators better understand the needs of communities, businesses, and consumers as they build the framework for the state’s new cannabis market. Information collected will be used to help guide future rulemaking and implementation decisions.

Virginia recently approved legislation creating a legal retail marijuana marketplace, with licensed recreational cannabis sales expected to begin in July 2027. Until then, the Cannabis Control Authority will continue developing regulations, establishing licensing procedures, and preparing the state’s oversight system. Officials encourage anyone interested in the future of Virginia’s cannabis industry to participate in the survey and help influence how the new market takes shape.
